One Response to “Can low-dose birth control increase cholesterol?”
It’s not likely. Higher dosage birth control pills, more common a decade or so ago, were more likely to increase cholesterol. There is some debate as to whether the low dosage pills today elevate cholesterol, but the overall findings are that they don’t make a significant difference. Your cholesterol could have been higher even before taking the pills but it was just never tested. It could also have something to do with your diet. Your best bet is to talk with your doctor and figure out what is causing it. If he thinks it is best to go off the pill for a while and see if that helps, you can always try an alternative birth control option like the Nuva ring.
