Maria asked:

My husband is only 30. He is in excellent shape and is a health food junkie. His cholesterol is pretty high and the doctor put him on medication. He took it for a year and it lowered. Then he went off of the medication and ate only perfect food for a few months, went back and his levels were through the roof. Therefore, it’s the genetic type of high cholesterol. He is back on medication now. I have a few basic questions to help me understand his risks:

1. He also has high “good” cholesterol. Does this, in any way, “cancel out” any of the “bad” cholesterol?
2. Since he is on medication, as long as he remains on medication and his levels are normal while on the meds, does that mean he’s not at risk?
3. Since he’s only 30, is it going to be dangerous for him to be on these medications for so many more years? (simvastatin).
4. Is there anything (besides Cheerios and oat meal) he can supplement with or eat to help keep things under control?

Thanks
A concerned wife!

beverly

I would like to get my cholesterol under control before it gets worse. What are some PRACTICAL things that I can do now to get it lowered? Being a college student I do not have the ability to devote 20 something hours a week to working out. Please be specific. A list of foods to avoid would be most helpful.
I am not overweight. In fact, if I lose anymore than 5 pounds I’ll be underweight.

lonnie

Angel Aguilar 19 year old asked:

october 28, 2008
i woke up took a hot shower, got outside it was cold.
i went to work, while i was working i felt something was hittin me like in my chest wall. is this normal? i was working my *** off.
then i got home i felt really tired, took a nap, then ate something and at night around 11pm i felt i had a fever, my eyes hurt, i got up to walk i felt weak i thought i was going to faint, so i sit down and rest in the living room couch, then i had my heart beats go up really high, i then had the same feeling something pounding on my chest on the left side and some times it was on the right side, is it my heart? or my kidney failing on me? i also at the same time had problems breathing i could not breathe fast i had to intake the air and breathe slowly, it i take a deep breath it will hurt me. then i decided to go to bed, i had my phone besides me just incase it got worst i was going to dial 911, so i eventually went to sleep.

October 29, 2008
i woke up, went to eat some cereal, i didn’t have appetite to eat anything, so i tried to eat something. i still felt that i have a fever and nausea, i still had breathing problems.
then at the afternoon around 5pm i felt hungry to i ate some food my mom cooked, enchiladas.
then later on i went to sleep.

October 30, 2008
woke up, i can breathe better, heart beats is fast but better than the past days. but my chest wall feels sore as if if someone had punched me.

any ideas of what i should do?
i tried to convince my dad to take me to a doctor
he said no because they charge alot money he owes the hospital 500 dollars, he has bad cholesterol, and high blood pressure, and has kidney stones.
is it im having all the stuff he has
did he pass it to me ? genetic?

alberobe

Phoona asked:

I had my Cholesterol levels checked a few days ago and the Total Cholesterol and Bad Cholesterol levels are fine. However, the Good Cholesterol levels are low and I need to increase these. After some research I found that by doing the following in my daily routine I can increase the HDL levels:

1) 30-40 minute exercise daily or at least 5 times a week
2) Cranberry Juice
3) Peanut butter with whole grain bread for breakfast
4) Food cooked in Canola or Olive oil
5) No fried stuff like french fries or fried chicken
6) Oven baked fish 1-2 a week.
7) Lots of fruit and vegetables

Does the above plan look good to increase the HDL levels?

pauline

mister? asked:

Day #1 lightheadedness headache and fatigue
Day#2 watery nose sneezes with pain in joints, fatigue, mild fever with headache, ears feel congested, chest feels congested.
Day#3 short dry coughs, pain in joints, dry nose with nosebleed, chest hurts with coughs, mild headache
Day#4 longer dry coughs, chest feels congested, hurts with coughs, occasional phlegms coming up with coughs, some with blood.

I am on day #5 today I have more coughing, longer duration with time with more phlegm and blood coming up. Midday I had mild diarrea but my appetite is still normal. I feel more energy and no headaches.

sidenote: I am on 10 mg of lipitor and it recently dropped my bad cholesterol from 240 to 157 within the past 2 weeks. I exercise a lot and eat healthy- no loss of appetite or vomiting occured during this sickness. I regret not getting the flu shot. Also the outside temperature in our area changed dramatically from the mid 70’s to the 30’s when I caught this.

dilworth
